Airport Overview of Horn Island YHID – Far North Queensland – taken shortly before landing after a 2point4 hour flight from Cairns YBCS in ‘Aero Tropics Air Services’ Aero Commander 500S ‘Shrike Commander’ VH-WZU Cn 3060 on 01Jul2006. The aircraft was on ‘Downwind Leg’ on approach to Horn Island YHID, visible across the image. An ‘Aero Tropics’ Cessna 208 Caravan is visible on ‘Finals’ at far right, and Thursday Island is visible at rear right. [A blurred propeller blade is visible on the skyline]. (This was my first flight in an Aero Commander, which was over the sea for half of the flight. I first photographed an Aero Commander on 25Feb1962 - Aero Commander 680F VH-ELH Cn 1103-69 at Moorabbin YMMB Victoria. There was a 44 year gap between photographing an Aero Commander, and actually flying in one.)
