On display in the Milestones of Flight Hall at the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C. Launched on July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 was the third flight to the Moon and the first to land on the lunar surface. Command Module Columbia carried Neil Armstrong, “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins. Columbia was recovered by USS Hornet on July 24, 1969 after the historic mission.
