A historic local event. The new dome has now been heli-lifted on to the top of the Jubillee Tower above the moors of Darwen. Darwen Tower, built in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee, had its dome blown off during high winds (80mph) on 11th November 2010. Apprentices at local firm WEC Group Ltd built the new dome as a project and donatated it to the town. It weighs 900kg and is made of stainless steel. Given its remote location, a helicopter was used to install it
