I first photographed RAAF Dakota (C-47B, Cn 26640) A65-64, lacking a rudder and elevators, at RAAF Base Wagga in 1987. This 'Gooney Bird' was delivered to the RAAF in Dec 1944 (Callsign VH-CUU, ex USAAF 43-49379), and was retired in Dec 1979 to be a Training Aid at the RAAF School of Technical Training (RAAFSTT) Wagga. The aircraft was then moved to Tocumwal NSW, and arrived at the Mulwala RSL Club, NSW, in October 2004. A65-64 has since been restored, and is shown ‘pole-mounted’ outside the Club Mulwala building, adorning the sloping carpark on 02Mar2015. (I flew in Sister-Ship A65-65 From Williamtown to Richmond (and return) on 18Nov1970 for Decompression Chamber Training.)
