Notes:

The 494th Fighter Sqn (48 Fighter Wing) transferred from France to Lakenheath in 1960. Having flown F-100s and F-4s, the squadron relinquished its F-111s for F-15s in 1992; 23 years on, potent as ever, one of its Eagles is seen here flying through the Machynlleth Loop at low level, carrying dummy AIM-120 AMRAAMs, an AIM-9L Sidewinder, a dorsal LANTIRN pod and the usual 600 (US) gallon tanks. Note how the compressed air ahead of the right wing leading edge acts as a lens and distorts the background.
