The aircraft was built in 1954 as CV-340. It served in the US with United Airlines (N73150), Allegheny Airlines (N354Z, N8427H and N5806), Evergreen International Airlines (N5806) and Interstate Airlines (N5806 and N590PL). Afterwards operated in Canada by Kelowna Flightcraft Air Charter (C-GKFP), Commuter Express (C-GKFP) and Air Toronto (C-GKFP). In 1990 it was acquired by Air Freight NZ where it got current registration ZK-FTA.
