During World War 2, there were no fewer than 5 operational RAF bases on the island of Malta, a Mediterranean island of only 17 miles long by 9 miles wide. Here are the remains of Hal Far airfield, now used for drag racing, with Luqa (Malta International Airport) visible at the top right where we have just taken off from.
