The two Su-22s were surely the star item at RIAT 2014. The aircraft were from the 40 ELT, 21st Tactical Air Base, Swidwin. The Polish Air Force has 32 of the type in service and has just invested in a life extension programme. Clearly visible are the fuselage-mounted flare dispensers which deploy automatically during low-level attack, a modification introduced to counter vulnerability to shoulder-mounted air-to-air missiles during the Soviet-Afghan war.
