Low res front view of pole-mounted DC-2 PH-AJU ‘Uiver’ (Code/ Race Number: 44) on display at Albury Airport in Dec1985. The Memorial commemorated the night landing at Albury Racecourse by the real PH-AJU near the end of the 1934 England- Australia Air Race, won by DH-88 Comet G-ACSS. This aircraft was actually RAAF DC-2 A30-11 Cn 1286, painted to represent KLM PH-AJU. (This DC-2-112 was originally Delivered to Eastern Airlines as NC13736 in Oct 1934. The RAAF received the DC-2 from Australian National Airways [ANA] on 30Mar1941). This aircraft was taken down from the poles late 2002 due to structural corrosion. The DC-2 marked as PH-AJU at Moorabbin Aviation Museum (MAM) YMMB Victoria is DC-2-112 ex Eastern Airlines NC13782 Cn 1292, ex RAAF A30-9 and VH-CRK. Ref: ADF-Serials.
