Notes:

Hung up side down in its true aerobatic form! The Pitts Special (called S1 and S2) is a series of light aerobatic biplanes designed by Curtis Pitts. Introduced in 1944 it still continues to be in production today! The design has been refined continuously since the prototype's first flight in September 1944, however, the current Pitts S2 still remains quite close to the original in concept and in design. On display is the S1-S variant which is similar to S1-C and certified for competition aerobatics. It was built in 1984 by the musuem founder Jim Cavanaugh with the assistance of his father James Cavanaugh Sr.
