I hope you're right. I hate to see any aircraft get the axe but it sure is interesting when it does happen.

I doubt its time has come. First of all, I don't think UAL would have gone to the expense of putting winglets on it just to turn around and scrap it--of course, dumber decisions have been made in the airline industry. Secondly, the fact that the engines and fuselage are sealed indicates the airplane is stored for re-use rather than scrapping.
