Rare view of visiting RAAF Phantom F-4E A69-7214 Cn 3873 about to rotate for take-off from Canberra’s Rwy35. Photo taken at the RAAF 50th Anniversary Air Display at RAAF Fairbairn, Canberra in April 1971. (The Army’s Duntroon training facility, along with Mt Pleasant and Mt Tharwa, are visible at rear.) The RAAF was using leased USAF Phantoms at Amberley while waiting for delivery of 24 F-111Cs, delayed at General Dynamics, Fort Worth, by structural problems. F-4E A69-7214 was delivered to the RAAF in Oct1970, and returned to the USAF in Oct1972. Low res photo.
