Champaign Lady under restoration. 44-85813 is the S/N they will use for this build, as well as parts from that plane, which crashed during a fire-fighting operation in North Carolina in the 80s. The reality is that this plane is being built with parts sourced from at least 5 airframes, components made from scratch using copies of the blueprints, and some randomly found parts. Just as I was taking these photos, The AP ran a story on this bird, elevating it to international fame.
