This is the Rolls Royce Merlin MkXII engine that belonged to Spitfire MK IIA P7533.The aircraft left Hawarden aerodrome on the morning of 14 October 1942 exactly 2 years to the day since it had been delivered.The aircraft was on a flight test when vibrations from the aircrafts engine made it uncontrollable,the pilot Sergeant Douglas Cooper Goudie of the R.C.A.F bailed out over Liverpool the aircraft flew across the River Mersey before crashing in Birkenhead park.The engine along with other debris was excavated from the park 06.10.2007 and is now on display in New Brighton.
