A close up view of the Honeywell turbofan that was to power the RJX, which was to be the most advanced and modern version of the Avro RJ series. G-IRJX took to the skies for the first time 12 days after the terror attacks of 9/11, although the negative effects of that terrible day on the aviation industry resulted in airlines cancelling their orders for the aircraft and the RJX program itself was terminated, bringing about the end of the UK's era of manufacturing commercial jet aircraft which started in 1949 with the de Havilland Comet. She now rests at Manchester's Aviation Viewing Park as a reminder of the hugely significant part the UK played in the development of aircraft.
