Rare low res view of RAAF 35 Squadron UH-1H A2-649 Cn 5649 at RAAF Base Townsville, in January 1988. The helo is wearing an experimental 'geometric' camouflage livery. A2-649, ex US Army 66-1166, was Delivered to 5 Sqn Fairbairn in Nov 1967, as a UH-1D. A2-649 and A2-085 were received as attrition replacements from US Army stocks. They were known at No 5 Squadron as the 'Bastard Deltas', because they were configured differently to the existing UH-1Ds at Fairbairn. (A2-649 was transferred to Army in Dec 1989.) No 35 Sqn was a 'Composite Squadron', operating two aircraft types. (Two Caribous and A2-377, in standard camo livery, are at rear.) Apologies for quality of this 1988 photo.
