A painful contact with his big brother. R.I.P. dear bird. An unique moment for you as photographer but above all a terrible moment for the bird

Wow that is perfect timing. It missed the cockpit windows by a few feet. |

Not nice for the crew and the bird of course. I think it's not great to hear such a sound.
Anyway: Karolis you've made a fantastic pic. My photo for the People's Choice Awards. |

I have a pilot friend who's looked at this and think it's photoshopped. He wonders about how the line of the fuselage is sharp except the area around the bird. One thing I wonder about is the lack of blood. Wouldn't you think there would be some on that very white fuselage? I don't want to undermine what may a spectacular photo. I would like to see other opinions. |

I found it at last! The first bloodless bird... It's now dead... Oh.
The plane is great though.

To all those, who think that this pic is 'fake' - it's as real as it is. :) I was at that moment with Karolis, but was not lucky enough, to spot the bird coming, and even take a shot. However, I have some pics taken before and after the incident. I've uploaded them to the internet, but it's not possible to post link in the comments because that's against the rules. Contact me, and I'll provide you with that link.
Also, after the birdstrike, security car came to take the remains, and Air Astana 767 had to wait, before departing. Maybe there's no blood, because the bird just ricocheted from top of the nose and remained intact or something. And image sharpness depends on digital image post-processing.
Karolis, congratulations on the 'shot of a lifetime', and thanks for the unforgettable spotting trip! :) |
