Chris, I have to hand it to you, you really caught the glare, on the "American Airlines", well! I plan to visit there someday so I can take similar photos, although I may not be able to capture such a shot quite like this one! By the way, how come there is no one on the beach to watch it?!!!LOL |

Thanks for the comments, guys!
Gary, if I recall correctly, this flight landed fairly early in the morning (10-11'ish), and that beach stays fairly secluded until the early afternoon. After 1-2pm, however, there will normally be at least 25-50 people congregated on the beach and more at the Sunset Beach Bar, visible in the background. |

This doesn't go on all night does it? |

Harry,
Not usually. Occasionally a flight will run late and land after sunset, but it's rare. After-dark departures normally depart runway 27 for noise abatement as well, provided the prevailing easterly winds have subsided enough. It was something seeing the Air France 747-200 depart over the beach area at around 100-200 feet, even if it was at night! :) |

Chris,
You have captured the essence of this place in this photo! Follow the road under the arch and you arrive at the Caravanserai Beach Resort. The casino has the blue domed roof and is way to the left of the photo. You can see the rooms of the resort just behind the casino. We spent a week there 2 years ago and it was just an awesome place to be. We 'd walk over to the sunset bar and watch the planes come in from there or from the Boat bar at the opposite end of the beach....what memories! The sunset bar has its own web page where you can see more pics like this...www.sunsetbeachbar.com

Chris, I never tire of watching this photo (and coming from me......I am only into military !!). I am continually putting this photo link in many of my emails, when I am telling a friend / correspondant, which is THE BEST PHOTO I HAD EVER SEEN !! Alan Cordina from the tiny island of Malta. That's a sight you'll never see again-- an empty beach. I actually still have this picture saved on my computer somewhere from when you first uploaded it (mighta been that *other* site, cant remember).... it was love at first sight! It was my computer wallpaper shot for the months leading up to my own trip down there. I tried to find that same spot, but the sun was bad (late sept.) It was my favorite of all the SXM shots (till my own, of course) and still brings back those memories. The empty beach. What a shot. |
