At the time, I used to ditch my highschool classes, walk down the street to Millbrae BART, and buy a $3 non-stop(as opposed to a San Bruno transfer) roundtrip ticket to SFO where I would spend hours and hours at the T2 AirTrain station shooting until dark. Now, the ticket has gotten much more expensive, the view from this location is largely obstructed, and far fewer 747s operate into SFO. Air France continued flying the 747s seasonally to SFO until about 2012.
