Notes:

Enroute from LHR to ATH, probably somewhere over Albania, we overflew this military airport. One can see the taxiways and aircraft parking bays very clearly, but I have one question. How do people cross from one side of the runway to the other, seeing that the runway stretches from one side of the peninsula to the other?

This airport is Aktion AB located near the city of Preveza on the west side of GREECE. It is used by the Hellenic (Greek) Air Force as a secondary airbase. The apron on the left side of the runways is the civil apron that serves a lot of charter flights during the summer months. Olympic Airlines flies there twice a week using ATRs or DASH-8. This airport is also one of the forward bases that NATO uses for its AWACS force. You can see NATO E-3s there occasionally. And since you are asking, people go from one way to the other using the road that goes just next to the end of the runway on the top of the photo. (Barely visible). And one note for spotters: You can get really close to the runway and get some great shots, but you have to be carefull because security there is REALLY tight.

After receiving information from a jetphotos.net member, I got to know that this might be the closed military airportof Giader AB (Gramsh). Thanks to Klaus Mueller for hip input.

There are two parallel runways there. I imagine they would simply back-taxi on one of the runways to get to the other end (if the wind favored that direction).
