A340's have been seen numerous times with the center gear in the up position. I'm positive they are NOT WELDED shut and I doubt it was damaged. |

Nice photo!
A340's can operate with the centre gear up, with the gear doors closed, rather than them being welded. They do have a reduced MTOW and MLW as a result. Back in the days of Kai Tak, Cathay Pacific apparently damaged a centre landing gear (somehow) but didn't want to take the plane out of service, so they stowed the centre landing gear like in the picture of this A340. Daryl Chapman has a picture of this Cathay A340 if you look on the database.
