| Remarks: This 1955 Provost, owned by Henry Cooke of Bruton, Somerset, is seen here arriving at the RAF Halton open weekend. It later put on an elegant sequence of aerobatics, the soft, melifluous clanking of the 550hp 9-cylinder Alvis Leonides radial making it a truly musical experience – a really lovely aeroplane. The mid-fifties RAF training pipeline comprised Chipmunk – Provost – Vampire/Meteor or Varsity. (400D, Sigma 80-400@281mm & fluid-head tripod, 100th, stabilization switched off) |
