Remarks: Waiting for the next flight KA801 to Hong Kong (HKG). You can see some cabin seats in blue or red through the windows. The last window, however, belongs to a lavatory, which is a new feature among the airline's fleet. [Handheld 0.3s]
Remarks: You will be lucky if your flight is allocated to Gate No. 1, as you will only need to walk for a very short distance after going through the security check.
Remarks: Ready for pushback while serving flight JS152 for Pyong Yang. At the back an IranAir's Boeing 747SP-86, EP-IAD, is being towed to a remote parking location. Lucky to have these two rare planes together.
Remarks: In flight KA801 from Shanghai Pudong to Hong Kong. This is the first of the newest A330 Airbuses of the airline which are installed with personal TVs. It is an offence under Hong Kong law to smoke inflight when the "No Smoking" signs are illuminated. Hmm ... does it mean that this is a smoking flight?
Remarks: Under the atrium of the terminal. On the upper floor, you can see departures passengers passing through security checks on the right. The middle floor is the landside departures level while the lower floor is the arrivals level. Inside the "tubes" on the lower left, automated belts are used to convey baggages.
Remarks: In-flight CX313 and carrying 140 passengers on board from Beijing towards Hong Kong. When the plane was taxiing for takeoff, it experienced a sudden halt in front of the final holding point. No injury for all passengers but a flight attendence was noted got minor injuries as she was thrown a few rows of seats forward. This incident was reported by a passenger to the local press some days after.
Remarks: The observation deck, which was later closed for redevelopment as airline lounges few years before Kai Tak's closure. This is the western portion of the original observation deck, while the eastern portion had already been redeveloped as airline lounges (the structure with white roof as shown on the left) when this photo was taken.
Remarks: A starboard window view of aircraft taking off Runway 13. You can see the north shore of Hong Kong Island from Quarry Bay to Wan Chai. The Air New Zealand's plane is serving Flight CX713 from Hong Kong to Singapore via Bangkok, when it is on lease to Cathay Pacific.
Remarks: On board flight CX713 from Hong Kong to Singapore via Bangkok, when ZK-NBS was leased to Cathay Pacific. Facilities of Kai Tak Airport were still substantially extended some 8 years before its closure. The plane shown in the photo is a Boeing 747-467 of Cathay Pacific, VR-HOS.
Remarks: Serving the last flight of the day to Beijing, KA906, which is not fully loaded even on this smaller plane. All passengers are aboard and waiting for pushback. You can see the lighting inside the cockpit as the cockpit door is still opened.
Remarks: Being pushed-back and preparing to take off as flight KA482 to Taipei. The sky is clear in this evening and you can barely identify the Tung Chung cable cars and towers on the hills in the background.
Remarks: A rather comfortable terminal building: Plenty of seats, automatic walkways, toilets, mini-exhibitions, televisions, etc. A mini-electric vehicle is also seen which provides an alternative method for passengers to reach their gates other than on foot.
