Remarks: RAAF F-111C A8-109 flies over Schofields airfield (HMAS Nirimba) with wheels down during a wet overcast day in March 1983. This ex USAF F-111A aircraft was acquired in May 1982 as an Attrition Replacement from DMA, and modified to F-111C configuration. (Mods included FB-111 undercarriage and extended wingtips.) The combination of rain and grainy Agfa slide film have degraded image quality. Apologies for low quality. (A USAF B-52 had trouble finding Schofields that day.).
Remarks: (Del 10/73) on display at the ADF Airshow. This is the escape module in which the crew ejected when A8-141 crashed after an explosion in the wheel bay while participating in Exercise Longex on October 25th, 1978 near Waiheke Island in New Zealand. Both crew survived the ejection and went on to serve long and distinguished careers in the RAAF.
Remarks: A smile came across the faces of onlookers when these guys turned up!!! Exercise Pitch Black 2008. Will be a sad day when they are all gone...
