Remarks: Brand new runway with no skid marks...a rare sight. Ceremonial opening of JFK's runway 31L after four months of closure for widening and resurfacing using new grooved concrete, rather than asphalt. Here, airport admins pose for the birth of a runway that should last 40 years, well beyond their retirement. Notice the huge "31L" digits in the image (1200x800 pixels).
Remarks: Just departed 04L at JFK you get an excellent view of the International Arrivals area at JFK with Howard Beach and the city in the background.
Remarks: The early evening view of JFK as we make the long left turn climbing out off runway 22R. KL642, B.777 PH-BQE to Amsterdam. A Delta 737 and TAM A330 can be seen taxiing to the terminals after landing on 22L.
Remarks: N713TW in the foreground amidst tons of Delta tails at Terminal 2, ready for the early morning rush. That's Jamaica Bay in the background (pic #400).
