Remarks: With Martin Withers in the right hand seat XH 558 closes the show at Farnborough on 'Enthusiasts' Day - a gentle landing with a beautiful classic. Note a Chinook in the distance preparing for arrival for the public days.
Remarks: The Highlight of the 2012 Farnborough Airshow flying displays on the two public days was Avro Vulcan G-VLCN / XH-558. The Vulcan’s display was the last on the Flying Program on both days. On Sunday 15Jul2012, the ‘Spirit of Great Britain’ Stole the Show. After landing, the Pilot maintained a nose high attitude on roll-out (and didn’t use a brake parachute.) The Camo livery works well with Farnborough Airport hangars in the background. The last time I saw a Vulcan fly was Sister-Ship XH559 at the RAAF 50th Anniversary Airshow at Laverton, Victoria, Australia on 18April1971.

On Sunday 15Jul2012, the ‘Spirit of Great Britain’ took off from Rwy 24 into dark threatening skies, but momentarily caught a glint of light while turning back to the crowd. The moment ‘made my day’. Remarks: (RIAT 2012) What an experience to watch and listen to this aircraft! The pilot holding off the nose to use the aircrafts wings induced drag to slow the aircraft down.
