Remarks: This photo follows a few minutes after the first I took of this incident (Photo ID: 333867). The emergency services had arrived, the smoke had stopped and cleared and that seemed to be the end of it. Then the smoke started again (another attempt to start?). You can see more clearly in this photo that the white smoke is issuing from the exhaust, not from anywhere else. The body language of the firecrew seems more relaxed as well. After this second outburst the aircraft was shutdown for the rest of the open day. Again, sorry for the poor quality, due to distance and haze from the previous smoke cloud.
Remarks: This helicopter seemed to have a bit of an engine problem (from what I could tell it was starting up), filling the airfield with white smoke. You can see the yellow and red fire vehicles just starting off, and the event has captured the attention of the startled visitors and Mercedes driver. There were no injuries and the helicopter did not seem to suffer any notable damage from the outside. There is an R-22 (G-OBIL) directly in front of the Jetranger, which is why it does not look quite right. Sorry about the lowish quality, but there was not time to set the camera up properly or get closer!
Remarks: At the back of Sheppards Surplus, a sort of surplus/seconds/sell anything store, can be found this Whirlwind. Also at this location is a Swift F4 and armoured vehicles.
