Tomcat belongs to VF-31 Tomcatters, although its two tails have solid red colour without the popular Felix the Cat painted on them. VF-31 stayed with Forrestal between 1985 and 1992, (one year after this carrier was decommisioned). a/c stricken 30.09.1999
Remarks: CVN-68 Nimitz hasn't been an usual visitor to Palma as it belongs to the Pacific fleet. Here the prow with lots of A-7s and some F-14s as well as EA-6B and E-2C. The first F-14 in sight is AJ-204 from VF-84, the popular squadron "Jolly Rogers" which was alive from 1955 to 1995. After deactivation of VF-84 the VF-103 Sluggers changed their squadron's name and insignia to that of the Jolly Rogers. This also was the last cruise of the VF-84 on the CVN-68 (Dec.1987-June 1988).
Remarks: CVN-65 Enterprise, VF-103 Jolly Rogers (name adopted in 1995, before the squadron was known as Sluggers). Tomcats nose Modex 214 and 215. This carrier was deployed in the Mediterranean Sea between June 28, 1996 and December 20, 1996. Tail code AA (CVW-17). The carrier arrived to Palma de Mallorca on July, 25 for a four-day port visit.
