Remarks: Bob Odegaard's beautiful restoration of a classic 1940's Cleveland racer, rounding the pylons again at the 2006 National Championship Air Races.

Remarks: Built for the USAAF as 44-82242, it was delivered as an SNJ-6 to the US Navy as 112121. In 1986, Jim Millar finished 5th in the T-6 Gold race with a speed of 215.691 mph. Scanned from a K64 slide
Remarks: Built in 1941 at 41-17370, The Mystery Ship qualified on the day this photo was taken with a speed of 214.09 mph. Richard Sykes eventually attained a speed of 211.198 in the heats. The deck chair is so typical of the race related clutter in the pits, when not working the crews would site back and watch the competition. Scanned from a K64 slide
Remarks: Wearing its former US Navy Bu Aer serial 51979. It was taken on charge by the US Navy Oct43 and was struck off charge Apr58. It was flown by John Martin at the 1986 Reno races with a qualifying speed of 204.255 mph. Scanned from a K64 slide
Remarks: Rent A Dent, showing just a trace of her former USN Bu Aer serial 111957 on the tail with the owners initials as the base code. It finished third in the T-6 Bronze Race with a speed of 208.174 mph, flown by Robert Jones. Scanned from a K64 slide
Remarks: Ever wondered why the F4U had bent wings? The propeller was so large that had it had a straight wing it would have needed a long reach undercarriage. Not a good thing to have for carrier landings. Bending the wings shortened the undercarriage so a strong undercarriage could be fitted. Scanned from a K64 slide
Remarks: One gets a feeling of looking at a very angry engine. Bob Guilford raced The Blue Max in the qualifying rounds at a speed of 325.994mph, and raced in the Unlimited Bronze race at 264.586 finishing 8th. The aircraft was Bu Aer 133693, it crashed killing the pilot and her passenger at Brown Field, San Diego, 10May87. Scanned from a K64 slide
