Remarks: "Retro 03 Flight" finally leaving for home, these F-18's had been stranded at Mildenhall for nearly two weeks. The aircraft, from VMFA 112 "Cowboys" based at NAS Fort Worth, Texas, had been part of an original deployment of four aircraft that had been flying out of Boscombe down before repositioning here for their flight back to the USA. Unfortunately one of the aircraft went u/s, and while two of the Hornets headed home, these two machines were delayed.

Remarks: Taxying for take-off, this rare aircraft was a welcome visitor to Mildenhall when it spent twelve days here away from its Johnson Space Centre base in Houston, Texas. It flew various high altitude missions, including cosmic dust sampling. Although much modified and altered over the years, the aircraft is still unmistakably a Canberra, although its performance is greatly enhanced, using only a third of the runway before climbing steeply!! The aircraft was previously 63-13298, a serial that it still carries just forward of the cockpit.
Remarks: Sporting a striking colour scheme, brand new KC-130J, "Raider 41" awaits a flight plan before lining up to depart runway 29 at Mildenhall. The aircraft is on strength with VMGR-352 based at MCAS Miramar, California.

Remarks: A rare bird to UK shores indeed, this magnificent WB-57F spent some time at Mildenhall flying various missions. Despite its amazing wingspan, (which helped it to climb steeply using only a third of the runway!!), and many modifications, it is still easy to see that it is derived from the English Electric Canberra. It still carries its serial, 63-13298, on the forward fuselage just forward of the cockpit.
Remarks: This BAC One Eleven still looks immaculate in her smart ETPS colour scheme. This aircraft first flew in July 1973, as DQ-FBV of Air Pacific. In March 1984 she started her military life with the RAF, a far cry from the exotic climes of the South Pacific!!
Remarks: Turning in on (very) short finals, this F-18 was one of four that spent some time at Boscombe Down at the end of September / beginning of October. They were taking part in exercises on Salisbury Plain as well as paying a visit to Coningsby to "play" with the resident Typhoon fighters. The aircraft are assigned to VMFA-112 "Cowboys" based at NAS Fort Worth, Texas
