Remarks: This pair (EC-GGB is behind) of what was once the world's premier trans-Atlantic airliner, now sit at Cordoba, at the end of their lives, Basaer having gone out of business in 1999.
Remarks: Preserved here since the late 1970s, this ex-Spantax aircraft was looking distinctly the worse for wear when I saw it in 2003. Thankfully, it has recently received a badly needed fresh coat of paint. Long may it survive.
Remarks: Beautifully repainted into KLM's late 1940s livery (by KLM, free I believe) and the pride of the Aviodrome collection. There are high hopes the aircraft will fly again this year, after being grounded since 2004.
Remarks: An excited passenger is given his pre-flight briefing before takeoff for a pleasure flight in Air Atlantique's classic Prentice. Taken at one of AA's "Open days."
Remarks: This handsome DC3 of Air Atlantique flew-and indeed may still by flying, for all I know-for Thales on radar? trials. Photographed at one of AA's "Open days"-well worth a visit. Note the dorsal fin-presumably fitted to counteract the effect of a "blister" radome just visible under the nose.
Remarks: Interesting juxtaposition of shapes in this head on close up view of one of the engines of this magnificent old Soviet propliner. It made its last flight into Zurich on 26th June 2005, was then towed off the airport and had the "Runway 34" restaurant built round it, situated-of course-near the end of Kloten's runway 34. It forms a very elegant and unusual centrepiece for the restaurant-recommended.
