Target tow flight for the F-16 force.
The end of an era: 18 January saw the last ever tow flight by a Starfighter in Dutch AF service. It made also the last working day of the pilot, who retired directly afterwards.
During the summer of 1982 D-8066 was based at Leeuwarden as target tow aircraft. The large dart was attached to the left pylon, where the winch was at the right.
In 1982 this Starfighter arrived at Leeuwarden for target tow duries. The winch equipment can be seen underneath the wing.

After front line service the Starfighter soldiered on as a target tower. You can see the gun has been removed for this task.
Lucky me they didn't switch the afterburner on. You can clearly see the starfighters static exhaust nozzle.
