Last MiG-21s were retired 2003. This example has a GP-9 gun pod under the fuselage. GP-9 contained a twin barrelled GSh-23L 23mm cannon.

Remarks: Over 36 000 examples were produced. Il-2 is no doubt the most produced aircraft in human history. Shturmovik is the symbol of Red Army Soviet pilots. Massive use of the "Ilyusha" gained a reputation of Flying Tank, Schwarz Todt, Eiserner Gustav, Crop Duster.... Poland got some surplus Soviet planes late 40's and early 50's. Air Force and Navy used Shturmoviks through the 50's. This example is preserved at Polish Army Museum, Warsaw, with B-33 ( Czech built Il-10 ), Pe-2FT and Tu-2S. Worth of visiting!
