Remarks: ZH836 departs (with ZH858) after a brief visit to RAF Valley. The Merlin HM.1 was the first helicopter designed and manufactured as a fully integrated weapons system; the development contract (H21a/08) spanned nearly a decade during which much of the technology became obsolescent and had to be replaced before the helicopter entered service.
