Remarks: Locals refer to this location as "the boat ramp". Consisting of a man made peninsular extending out into the bay at the southern end of the Port Botany public boat ramp. The poles right of frame denote the boat ramp car park boundary. Ideal for 16 left / 34 right rotation shots using 100 to 400 lens as this position is about half way down the runway, however you must be on site early in the morning before the heat haze kicks in. To get there head south along Forshore Road for about 2Km and look for the boat ramp on right hand side. It is well sign posted with traffic lights at the entrance. Fellow Sydney Spotters Michael Douglas & Mark H can be seen bottom right of frame shooting the A320 about to rotate. [Google Earth Latitude 33°57'36.44"S Longitude 151°12'3.03"E]
Remarks: SODPROPS in action at Sydney Airport. SODPROPS = Simultaneous Opposite Direction Parallel Runway Operations. What a mouthfull! :) All inbound traffic lands on runway 34L and any outbound traffic takes off in the opposite direction using runway 16L. This configuration keeps aircraft traffic in or out of Sydney over Botany Bay which helps minimise aircraft noise over residential suburbs near the airport. I'm not sure if any other airports in the world use this configuration.
Remarks: Heading off to Melbourne to do a fly by at the Australian Football League grand final held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This promotion has since been removed from this aircraft.
