Remarks: Easily the highlight of the day! This Do-328/C-146A, using callsign “Magma01”, is photographed here coming in for a 25R landing making a higher than normal approach. A relatively new type for the Air Force as they have been acquiring these Dorniers since 2011. They are operating for the Special Operations Command of the USAF. My first time photographing the Do-328 as it’s a type rarely seen in Hong Kong. 11-3104 was previously with US Airways Express (N440JS) & Cirrus Airlines (D-CIRE).
Remarks: Finnair A340 approaching 25R carrying Finnish design company Marimekko’s floral patterns called “Unikko”. It looks rather interesting and certainly catches the eye. This is the second time OH-LQD has looked different as it was previously the Angry Birds logojet.
Remarks: PO237 from Seoul & Cincinnati operated by the Polar/DHL hybrid about to land on 25R. I can’t get over just how awesome the 747-800 looks giving the original 747 design a modern spin with the raked wingtips and serrated edges on the engine nacelles (which actually helps reduce the noise).
Remarks: The newest aircraft type in the Air China fleet. I think the Air China scheme is one of the best out there and it's rather nice to see an older generation cheatline scheme on modern aircraft like the 77W.
Remarks: PQ7306 departing to Clark on a morning with pristine weather conditions. AirAsia's strong growth over the years has seen it set up subsidiaries throughout Asia.
Remarks: This was my first time photographing a DL 764 and luckily just so happened to be the SkyTeam plane! It's looking fantastic lit up by the afternoon sun.
Remarks: After a dull, dark, foggy morning the weather transformed into sunny and clear skies allowing the photography to begin! My first time photographing the Asiana A320 as these are not seen in HKG.
Remarks: MP984 taking off for Sharjah & Amsterdam after a late rotation leaving behind a decent smoke trail. This arrived from Xiamen an hour & a half earlier. One of 6 MD-11CFs (Convertible Freighters) ever built, hence the windows which are still there even though they’ve been an all-cargo operator since 2011. It gives it an odd but unique look for something that functions as a dedicated freighter now.
Remarks: Haven’t seen a normal scheme Asiana 767 in ages & great to get it again from this angle in nice weather. This 767 is operating flight 722 back to Seoul, which is usually an A330 these days.
Remarks: Biman arriving heavily delayed. I was expecting the DC-10 to operate as normal but this old scheme A310 was more than acceptable!! S2-ADK is the first A310 to feature their final new scheme. This is quite an old one at 22 years of age & was delivered to Biman in 2003.
Remarks: Air India's ALC departing on the early morning service. I'm not a big fan of this scheme but it does look nice in these conditions (as would any scheme really!).
