Remarks: "Miguel de Unamuno" Exclusive Images of one of the most terrible incidents I’ve witnessed in UIO. The airplane landed at 17:15 with light rain and wet RWY. According to people who saw the airplane land, the aircraft it skid out of control, and over shot the RWY into the grass area. As it hit the grass one of the main landing gears tore off, the aircraft sank into the grass hitting part of the underground tunnel structure, ripping and blowing up other tires making the plane stop. Then engines 1 and 2 hit the ground causing them to rip off the wing. Certainly a terrible incident, thankfully no fatalities! Airport will be closed for about 1 day.

Spotting in heavy raing and from a very difficult spot! Just look at engine 1 and 2 tottaly ripped off and people still evacuating!?! Amazing, Luckily no one was hurt!! An amazing moment! UIO will be cosed for over 24 hours until this beast is removed!

Remarks: By far the most incredible take off I've whitnessed from RWY17. 747-200 rotating crosswinded, making it drop out from the RWY axis and aim in a totally different direction! Just look at that. Look at the people on the left taking shelter!

Remarks: The most shocking image I have ever taken in my short airplane enthusiasm career. The shot a lot of people were waiting to see. Notice the mud of the rescue team that entered the cockpit from the broken glass on the right. Also notice that the captain´s seat was removed to ease his way out of the plane. At last note the position of the controls! I will never forget the real sight of this, my first time in a 747 cockpit, well if we can consider it one.

Remarks: As you can see in the picture we are climbing with the landing gear deployed. When the crew noticed that this image (combined with some strange noises coming from the undercarriage) was showing on the LCDs screens they shut them off but it was too late, everyone on board knew that something was wrong. After declared the emergency we were been flying over Spain for about 1 hour and then returned to LEMD where all the security system was alert and after a very hard landing several fire trucks surrounded just in case the issue was getting worst. But we continued on taxi to a remote parking to disembark and get back to the terminal building.

Remarks: Two days after, you can get an idea about where the Iberia A340-600 stopped at the end of the RWY17. After landing the aircraft it skid out of control, and over shot the RWY into the grass area. Sadly, my first time sighting an incidente.
