Remarks: A busy but orderly time of day with around 180 flights on the boards from 17.05 to 23.40 and a scene that contrasts hugely with my subsequent T2 experience in April 2010. Having touched down from LAX at an eerily quiet airport on the second day of transatlantic operations to Europe, my cancelled connection flight merely meant that I added +1 to the thousands of people who packed the terminals to the gills as they tried to continue their journeys after volcano Eyjafjallajökull had disrupted air traffic in Europe over the previous week and a half. Note the characteristic gabled Amsterdam skyline on the bottom of each display screen.
Remarks: Schiphol's main entrance sports two banks of lights set in inclined plinths which give the appearance of runway lamps and which are set in a way which encourages people towards the main doors (see view of plaza and towers ... Click Here).
Remarks: Just like most things at Schiphol, the plaza outside the main entrance is both ergonomic and attractive. To the right are the taxi and bus ramps while the entrance stands to the left of the "marquee" roofing on the left. Behind the camera are a number of restaurants where a view towards the new and old towers also provides great opportunities for people watching (see view of main entrance ... Click Here).
