Remarks: Cessna 208B diving down the hill at SBH is fantastic to watch! After watching one plane do it i knew a fisheye shot was needed and this is the result. (1dmkii/15mm F2.8 Fisheye)
Remarks: One of the classic SBH shots here. Winair BN-2 dives down the steep hill here at SBH to make another safe landing in this paradise Island. The ramp can be seen behind with a mixture of private and parked aircraft sat in the caribbean sun! (1d2/28-135IS)
Remarks: After a short but powerful takeoff roll this Grand Caravan lifted off the runway and climbed out over the bay here at SBH. Yes there is no fence at the end of the runway and yes they are swimmers just chilling out in the ocean. It's paradise it really is. (1d2/100-400LIS)
Remarks: Now this twin otter is really in a sorry state. When i took this photo i remember thinking that this aircraft must be destined for the scrap heap. However things improves for this aircraft and it is now flying again for Winair after a full rebuild. It's good to know its in use again and not been scrapped or left sat wasting away. Remarks: This is hands down my favourite shot from my entire trip to SXM/STT and SBH. After a fantastic lunch at a lovely restaurant on the beach in SBH i then had the pleasure of watching this Cessna 208 fly around the bay doing touch and go's at the airport. Here she is coming round in a lovely bank over the bay, the light hit it perfectly and she looks great in the sun. The lovely aqua colours of the water below reflect on the underside and you can see the pilots checking out the landing strip. This for me is a perfect setting, perfect conditions and it resulted in a great photo! (1dmkii/100-400LIS)
Remarks: Here we have another shot from the archives, this aircraft now operates for Caribbean Airlines as BWIA has now dissapeared from the skies. This image was shot from the roof of the Maho beach hotel that looks down on the threshold of the runway here at SXM. BWIA 738 makes it's turn onto the runway to depart to somewhere equally as lovely as SXM no doubt. (1dmkii/100-400LIS)
Remarks: As we near SBH after our short flight from SXM I got ready to experience the awesome approach and landing into this fantastic little Island airport. As we approach the runway and the sharp drop you have to make to land there i snapped this overview shot from the front seat of our BN-2 PJ-CIW. This shot shows the setting of the airport and how close it is to the sea. Fantastic experience visiting this wonderful island. (1dmkii/28-135IS)
Remarks: This photo can give a pretty good indication of the access that photographers can have at this wonderful little island airport. If i'd walked 30 paces forward i'd be on the runway! Now if only other airports could have access like this! (1dmkii/28-135IS)
Remarks: The most common plane here in St Barthes has to be these little BN-2's. Nearly all the flights coming in and out were these or Cessna Caravans. I never tire of watching these things dive over the hill and land on this very short runway. (1dmkii/28-135IS)
Remarks: A private Cessna Caravan glides down onto runway 10 after throwing the nose down to dive down the side of the hill here at SBH. It's great to watch from this angle when they just pull up before touchdown. Good stuff! (1dmkii/100-400LIS)
Remarks: Our little BN-2 which was packed to the rafters with canon gear and photographers turns onto the runway at SXM and gets ready for departure for the short flight over to St Barts. The SSBB can be seen as well as the famous Maho bay just beyond the fence. (1dmkii/17-40F4L)
