Remarks: A nice view of the Northwest side of Antigua as we float in for a Visual Approach to Runway 7 as American 799 from New York - JFK. Visible is the old West Indies Oil Company Refinery, which has stood dormant for 30 years since refining operations stopped in the early 80s (it still is an active holding terminal). Also visible are the movie theater and the new Epicurian, and the north part of St. John, the capital. In the background you can see the Cedar Valley Golf Club.
Remarks: The big man's front office. Thanks to the friendly crew for the photo-op and conversation as we prepared to depart paradise, bringing another year's fun-in-the-sun session to a close! Note the stowed HUD, initial course set to 073 for a Runway 7 departure, and initial speed set to 152 as one of our FMS-computed V-speeds.
Remarks: Virgin 33 Heavy decelerating on 7, with my brother on board from Gatwick. That was my first exposure to the new livery, unfortunately a cloud did not let it fully shine.
Remarks: Continental 848 just over the bars of Runway 07, operating the daily Newark-Antigua service. Today it carries my parents; some days, however, Prime Minister Spencer rides this one, in coach, too!
Remarks: You know that we're close to touchdown if we are over Hadeed Motors, visible along Factory Road as we complete the last mile-segment of the VOR/DME Runway 7 approach to the land of Sun and Fun! This was the best I could do with an absolutely filthy window...
Remarks: [15:35] AAL1907 coming in hot over an hour late, zipping in high for the approach to Runway 07 here in Antigua. From my experience, AA sets down much later than BA, often having to unecessarily backtrack on the new Taxiway Charlie instead of using Alpha. Unfortunately, clouds settled in over ANU but not over the rest of the island. Thanks again to John Jauchler for the editing help, and to my grandparents for a great vacation and spotting trips!
Remarks: A good view of St. John's Harbour as we glide in on the Runway 07 approach to V.C. Bird International, AAL1907 from MIA. 2 big cruise ships were in for Christmas. Clouds covered the island's West side on Christmas Eve, but a few hours later the sun came out. Special thanks to John Jauchler for editing help!
