Remarks: Tail shot of American Airlines N474 (FLT AAL682) as she taxis to the gate on Taxiway Charlie after arrival from Dallas/Ft Worth Int'l (KDFW). The modified tail cone reduces drag, and thus fuel consumption by approximately 1%. Boeing quoted a price of $270K per tail cone, and AA found that they could construct the same part for $35K. The tail cone was designed & built by American Airlines at their Tulsa facility.
Remarks: This is the right Reg! This aircraft does not have the "AA" ending. It is the only aircraft in the American Airlines fleet, which doesn't have any letter at all!!!! Some other MD-80 just have one "A".
