Remarks: I made a special journey down from Manchester to North Weald (about 180 miles), to see two DC4s/C54s which had just made the transatlantic crossing-see photo elsewhere in database by me-and was rewarded by not just seeing them, but also this Dak, "Fifi Kate," and amazingly good light for late November in the UK.
Remarks: "Fifi Kate" was built in the Douglas Long Beach plant and delivered on the 14th of June, 1943, and flew for the USAF during World War II. Over the years, she has flown for numerous cargo airlines in the US, Europe, Alaska, and Canada. She has also appeared in many movies, including "Band of Brothers". On this beautiful Memorial Day, Fifi Kate sits on the ramp at SNA, her new home, only a few miles away from her first home, Long Beach Airport.
Remarks: This should have been one of my finest A2G and A2A flights being onboard the DC3 strapped in at the open cargo door i was suposed to photograph the PH-BUK on the ground and the DC2 inflight. None of which happend as a mechanical failure forced us to turn around :-(
