Remarks: Ansett 50th Anniversary Tour 1986. Ansett’s ‘First Aircraft’ displayed in a tent in Civic Centre Canberra. This restored Fokker F-XI Universal was imported from Graz, Austria in 1974 ex OE-DAA. She was built in 1929, and was first registered as CH-188, later HB-ALO. The aircraft, which is now in the Sir Reginald Ansett Museum in Hamilton Victoria, represents Ansett Airways' first aircraft - Fokker Universal VH-UTO (cn 422), bought by Reginald Ansett in 1936 and used for the first air services between Hamilton and Melbourne. It was destroyed in a hangar fire in 1939. Low res photo.

This aircraft started service with Australian National Airways (ANA) in 1938, and was impressed into RAAF service as A30-3 in Sep 1939, at the start of WWII. Remarks: The third DC-3 to be imported into Australia, this historic aircraft was purchased by Australian National Airways for 32,000 pounds and first registered on 31 October 1938. After a wartime spell as A30-3, it was badly damaged in a forced landing following an engine fire on 4 Oct 1948. Taken over in 1957 by Ansett-ANA. To Airlines of South Australia in 1961 & 'retired' on 13 March 1971 with 67,224 hours. And that's only her first 33 years!
