Remarks: The AC-47 or 'Spooky' was used in Vietnam and usually went on night missions. From 1964 to 1969 the AC-47's defended 3,926 hamlets, outposts and forts. No outpost or village under AC-47's protection was ever lost to the enemy. Aviation Nation 2007
Remarks: The AC-47 Gunship is also known as 'Puff' or 'Spooky'. It is a side firing aerial gunship that provided a close air support in defense of ground positions and pre-planned strikes.
Remarks: I'm stealing this info from Bruce: 'Ex-US Air Force# 43-16369. Originally built (in 1944 - Douglas DC3C-R-1830-90C) as a C-47, but modified in the 1960s into an AC-47 Gunship.' It's still pretty scary 'cause it's nicknamed 'Spooky'.
