Remarks: (Del 6/73) seriously low, mighty fast and splendidly loud! It was a pleasure to witness the Pig doing what it does best from such close range just prior to retirement. This marvel of modern technology, that has the honour of performing the last ever "dump and burn" a few days after this shot was taken, has been spared from the scrap heap and now resides in the RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre.
Remarks: The RAAF F-111 blasts away from what would be its last ever performance at Air Show Downunder after many years of dump and burns and entertaining crowds..a sad day!!
Remarks: Last dump and burn at Avalon as the F-111 failed to launch on the Sunday of the last ever Avalon airshow for the RAAF F-111..sad to say goodbye!
Remarks: The RAAF's Second F-111C, A8-126 (operated by 1 Squadron), did the Finale 'Dump and Burn' at the 2008 Amberley Defence Airshow. (Note the 1 Squadron 'Lightning' Fin Flash). I didn't expect an Encore! The 'swing-wings' are swept forward at 26 degrees in this side view, at the moment the After-Burners ignited the first litres of dumped fuel. A8-126 performed the Actual 'Last Dump and Burn' during the 'Retirement' display at Amberley on 03Dec2010. (I first photographed a Dump and Burn at Amberley in 1976.)
Remarks: The RAAF's Second F-111C, A8-126, did the Finale 'Dump and Burn' at the 2008 Amberley Defence Airshow. I didn't expect an Encore! The 'swing-wings' are swept forward at 26 degrees in this rear view - a 'Fort Worth Flamer' after the dumped fuel ignited. (The wheels are still down and the Horiz Stabs are deflected.) The Public Address Announcer said that the 'Dump and Burn' was being performed for the last time at this Amberley Airshow. It wasn't the 'Last Dump and Burn'! A8-126 did the Actual 'Last Dump and Burn' at Amberley when the F-111 fleet was retired from RAAF Service on 03Dec 2010. The Final RAAF F-111 Flight was by WG CDR Michael Gray (CO 6 Sqn) in A8-125 at Amberley on Friday 03Dec2010. (I first photographed a Dump and Burn at Amberley in 1976.)
Remarks: The RAAF retired its F-111 aircraft on 03Dec2010, after 37 years Service from 1973. The type is being replaced by interim F/A-18F Super Hornets, until F-35s are introduced. RF-111C A8-126 flew the last RAAF Airshow displays at Williamtown on 18/19Sep2010. Photo shows the finale Dump and Burn on Saturday 18Sep2010, as A8-126 does a 'touch and go' over Rwy 12. (This aircraft has a Special Logo on the tail fin, and two wing flap panels are missing!) The F-111 and its unique Dump and Burn display has now been consigned to history. It will be missed, especially by aviation photographers! The Final RAAF F-111 Flight was flown by WG CDR Michael Gray (CO 6 Sqn) in A8-125 at Amberley on Friday 03Dec2010. A8-126 (used for 'Dump and Burn' Demos at Amberley Oct 2008, Townsville Sep 2009 and Williamtown Sep 2010) also did the Final RAAF F-111 Dump and Burn at Amberley on 03Dec2010). I first saw this unique 'flaming display' at Amberley in 1976.
Remarks: RAAF RF-111C A8-126 performs a rolling 'Top-Side' pass at the 2009 Defence Force Air Display, over the Strand in Townsville. (Note the deployed spoilers on the port wing.) The aircraft performed a Dump and Burn three times that day. The crew had a hard act to follow - slotted after a 30 minute display by the USAF Thunderbirds! Luckily, the East Coast dust cloud cleared enough overnight to allow a full flying program. It is interesting to note that A8-126 was used for Dump and Burn demos at Amberley Airshow October 2008, Townsville Airshow September 2009 and 'Finale' Williamtown Airshow September 2010.
Remarks: Goodbye to the Pig! An RAAF F111C completes a dump and burn at the Williamtown Airshow. This aircraft type will be retired at the end of 2010 and this was the last public display.
Remarks: End of an era - The F111's final airshow before being retired at the end of 2010. A medium speed low pass showcasing it's trademark dump and burn.
Remarks: RF-111C A8-126 flew the last RAAF Airshow F-111 displays at Williamtown on 18/19Sep2010. Photo shows an underside view of a 'Dump and Burn' in dark overcast conditions on Sunday 19Sep2010, over Williamtown's Rwy 30. The wings are swept back to 72 degrees for this high speed/ high 'G' run. The horizontal stabilisers are lit up by the flames and have plenty of deflection, and wisps of vapour are visible at the wingtips. The RAAF will retire the remaining F-111 aircraft in December 2010, after 37 years Service from 1973. The type is being replaced by interim F/A-18F Super Hornets, until F-35s are introduced. The F-111 and its unique Dump and Burn display is now being consigned to history. It will be missed, especially by aviation photographers!
