Built too late to see combat in WWII, this Mustang served with 45th TRS at Kimpo during the Korean War. Authorised for disposal in April 1956 at McClellan AFB, it went to Canada and returned to USA, where it changed hands several times. It was restored at Chino, CA as a TF-51D and flown with drop tanks to Duxford, where it reached on July 4, 2007 and became a part of The Fighter Collection. It is painted to represent Capt Frank Birtciel’s P-51D 44-14561 “Miss Velma” of the 55th FG based at Wormingford.
