This F-5 is displayed in superb condition on a stylish display stand outside the restaurant building at Flugplatz Meiringen, adjacent to the roof-top viewing terrace. It is believed to be an instructional airframe used for structural tests at RUAG Interlaken, the actual serial being L0998, painted in the markings of an operational aircraft. Scheduled replacement of the Luftwaffe F-5 by the Gripen was over-ruled by a referendum, in which 53% voted against the plan.
