Notes:

Two large birds were ingested by the right (number 2) engine of 'Alpha Whisky' as it rotated, resulting in loud bangs and flames from the back of the engine. After a mayday call from the flightdeck the aircraft flew out to Wallasey to hold for a period and burn enough fuel to land safely back at Manchester - I believe the 757 is not equipped to dump fuel. The resulting heavy landing was very professionally handled on the one remaining engine. This photo shows the engine in question (looking strikingly normal) - note that it is shut down and therefore there is no reverse thrust, whereas the left engine (visible under the fuselage) can be seen to be in reverse. Congratulations to all involved in handling this event so professionally.
