Oasis Hong Kong Airlines to cease operations

Oasis Hong Kong Airlines (Hong Kong) is expected to make an announcement at 2 pm local time today that it will cease operations because of losses. It is reported that the airline has accumulated losses as much as $128 million USD and loses more than $128,000 USD per flight. Oasis began flying to London in October 2006 and added services to Vancouver a year ago in a bid to challenge Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong). It initially offered tickets to London Gatwick for as little as $128 USD one-way, less than 20% the price then charged by Cathay Pacific for flights to Heathrow. With the price of fuel surging upwards by more than 73% in the past year, Oasis would be joining several other airlines in the past month in ceasing operations.

Any Airline that goes out of business in these days of exorbitant oil prices, is a very sad day. Good luck to those who will loose their jobs.

$128 million in losses; $128,000 per flight; $128 base fares? Sounds like 128 was Oasis's unlucky number.

This situation is crazy!!!

It should not happen

are we back in ''1997'' or ''2001'' all over again?

I wish the goverments of the world would intervene to lowe the price of crude oil/gassoline or do some thing help to protect vaunrable airlin
es or/I mean coulden't gorden brown see the situation was not riht to raise green taxes at a time when no one can no longer aford to even fill up with fuel for theire own cars,is the goverment trying to reverse the situation back 60-80 years to a time when only the ritch could fly and how many more new cars dose he get by putting the situation in financial meltdown for ordenary citizens.

Please some one come to theire sences find a rescue deal for Oasis HK and other airlines like them who by the way have the right to Servive as mutch as the premire priced airlines

But where's the giant Government of the People's Republic of China? Although it has One Country, Two Systems for 50 Years in relation to Hong Kong...maybe Air China can take a stake on...

It is a shame. They surely though must have had had some 'plan'. Reviews were always very
good. Perhaps they should have looked at the regional market more, HK still does not have it's it's own budget carrier and yet there is such a great demand. So many HK residents head off for getaway breaks around Asia and yet HK still does not mave any carrier providing budget flights which are doing very well from Singapore, KL and Bangkok.

Does anyoneone how they came up the name 'Oasis' ? I always though it a very strange choice for an airline in the Asian market.
